Planning Committees and Applications

Downend & Bromley Heath Parish Council has a right to be notified of planning applications affecting the Council’s area and to comment (Town & Country Planning Act 1990, Schedule 1, paragraph 8).  Every planning application received is recorded, together with the Parish Council’s response to South Gloucestershire Council, in a book for such purpose.

The Planning Committee of Downend & Bromley Heath Parish Council usually meets every fortnight at Lincombe Barn.  Please see our Parish Council notice boards for dates of meetings or contact the Parish Clerk, Angela Hocking, on 0117 9567001, email clerk@dbhparishcouncil.co.uk or look on www.dd-dev.co.uk/downend/your-council/meetings.

We welcome members of the public at these meetings, whether they are the applicant or have concerns that a potential development may affect them.  It is particularly helpful to the Parish Council’s Planning Committee to know of residents’ concerns before deciding whether or not to raise an objection to any application, and sending our formal response back to South Gloucestershire Council.

All current planning applications can be accessed via www.southglos.gov.uk, click ‘planning applications’ under ‘most popular’ category, click ‘view planning applications’ (in the blue box just below the picture of roofs of houses) and follow the instructions on the information required to search for a specific planning application.

It is worth remembering that the Parish Council can only comment to South Gloucestershire Council on planning applications; it is South Gloucestershire Council which makes the actual decision. However, any decision made by South Gloucestershire Council will take into account written comments received from all consultees.

It should be noted that residents must record their comments regarding a planning application either in writing or on line via South Gloucestershire Council’s website link.

Following some changes to the planning laws in October 2008, it is now possible to carry out some minor alterations to your home that do not require planning permission.  Our advice to you is to check with South Gloucestershire Council’s Planning Department whether planning permission is required before carrying out any alterations.

For further information on the planning process, visit www.southglos.gov.uk/planning, in particular the section “Do you need planning permission?” where there is plenty of useful information and guidance.
