Downend Business Community

NEWS FROM

THE DOWNEND BUSINESS COMMUNITY

The Downend Business Community - Chamber of Commerce (DBC) is the voice of the local businesses community in the Parish and beyond.  It offers all businesses in the area regardless of size and location, the opportunity to promote both themselves and the business community through joint initiatives and links with local Councils and other stakeholders.

Seeing the Lights!

The DBC will again be supporting the Downend Christmas Celebrations and Lights Switch on, which will take place on Friday 25th November outside the Horseshoe.

As last year, a number of shops and businesses on the high street will be opening late and setting up stalls to coincide with the event.  This is a chance to meet your local businesses (including those that don't have a high street presence), cadge the odd mince pie or warming drink and there will be a prize 'treasure hunt' for the children, similar to the event which last year saw over 50 entries.  In addition many of the businesses will be 'Switching on' their own Christmas lights to add to the festivities.

If you are a business and would like to be involved, please contact the DBC.

NOTE - The Parish Council is also running a 'Best Dressed Christmas Window' competition between 25th November-25th December for businesses in Downend, Bromley Heath, Cleevewood and the Quakers Road areas.

Downend Village Fete

Plans are well underway for Downend's first Village Fete.  Hosted by the DBC, Downend Cricket Club will be the venue for the inaugural event on Saturday 14th April 2012.  There will be a large number of stalls, children's activities - face painting, bouncy castle etc, and many other events taking place on the day.  A number of local groups and institutions will be taking part and supporting the event too, helping making this a day to remember.  These will include local schools and clubs, scout groups, Christ Church Downend, the Parish Council and South Gloucestershire Council.  DBC are looking for additional volunteers to help out before and during the day so if you think you might be able to help, please contact: steve@rubiconmarketing.net.

There will be collections on the day for BRACE (raising money for research into dementia), the represented charity for the Fete.  For more information about BRACE and its work please visit: www.alzheimers-brace.org.
